School-Museum Partnerships

Art Class Onsite at The Aldrich

Preschool to K

This program, designed as a complement to your school's curriculum, provides young children with the opportunity to make The Aldrich Museum their art class and studio. Classes of up to 15 children visit the Museum once a month during the school year (six sessions or more) to explore the works in our galleries, and are encouraged to make connections between what they see and experience here and their everyday lives, with stories and hands-on activities utilizing a wide variety of materials. Teachers and parent chaperones attend the hour-long sessions along with the children. A Museum educator leads each session and all materials are provided.

New Literacies

Grades K to 3

Schools are invited to collaborate with The Aldrich on a multi-part program that takes place both at the Museum and in the classroom, focusing on expanding visual literacy skills. Using resources from our exhibitions, grounds, buildings, and community, educators will expand modes of thinking in students by modeling how artists and professionals in other fields think creatively and critically. They will provide concrete examples of how concepts–such as “light” and “sound”–transcend the school building and textbooks to be applied in the natural and built world. Each topic will be connected to the science, math, or language arts curriculum.
