Teacher Programs

Teachers' Professional Development

Throughout the academic year, The Aldrich Museum offers customized in–service sessions to teachers of all subjects and grade levels. Participating schools work with a Museum educator to determine a focus that meets their specific needs. Fees are based on the length of the program and the number of participants. The Aldrich Museum is an approved provider of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and is pleased to award CEUs in increments of 0.1 units per hour of on-task time to individuals who successfully complete professional development activities that meet the standards of the State of Connecticut.

The Aldrich features workshops based on its research on creative–thinking skills and the belief that creativity and innovation, while native to the arts, are skills necessary for success in all fields of learning. “Creativity: Collecting, Playing, Creating” workshops are a minimum of three hours, and focus on articulating each participant’s unique style of thinking through media and materials and how to apply this knowledge to problem solving.

Further topics include “Writing and Art,” “Open–Ended Questioning: A Strategy for Engaging Students,” and “Tackling Tough Topics.” Call the Museum to schedule at least one month in advance.

Teacher In–Service Fees: $125 per hour for up to 30 participants; $200 per hour for 31 or more participants.

Educators' Previews: Behind the Scenes

Area teachers are invited to Behind the Scenes to hobnob with Aldrich artists, curators, members, and Trustees. Join us to sneak a preview of the newly mounted exhibitions on each Friday evening that precedes a public exhibition reception. Museum educators are on hand to answer questions about school and teacher programs. Behind the Scenes is free for educators. RSVP is requested.
