Artbarn Bonanza!
Back to Aldrich Experience homepage
There's only one way to see the "awesome, incomparable"* artbarn on Quantuck Bay in Quioque, NY, and that's by invitation. This Aldrich Experience offers the opportunity to enter into this exemplary private collection of photography and sculpture escorted by visionary artist Serge Spitzer, whose recent solo exhibitions include the Kunsthalle (2003) and Kunstmuseum, Bern, Switzerland (2006) and the Museum of Modern Art (MMK) Frankfurt/Main, Germany (2006). One of the preeminent artists of his generation, Spitzer not only designed the building, but inspired the owners, Jerome and Ellen Stern, in their twenty-five-year passion for collecting. The Aldrich is pleased to present a major outdoor installation by Spitzer in the spring of 2008.You will want to plan your trip to Quioque during the two weeks that you spend behind the wheel of a 2008 Audi TT Roadster, courtesy of Danbury Audi. Enjoy the sure handling and iconic design as your drive to the 17-acre artbarn property becomes an integral part of the experience. Inside the park, beautifully sited artworks appear at every turn, and within the three-story-tall, 10,000-square-foot contemporary art museum, you will marvel at the important sculptures and photographs, as well as the building that contains them.
The friendship and collaboration between Spitzer and the Sterns has resulted in a fantastic contemporary collection, where one artist's important works can brush up against the eclectic output of several others, and where celebrated artists maintain their cool in the face of esthetic challenges from hot young artists. Among the artists whose work can be seen in the collection are Scott Burton, Yayoi Kusama, Frederick Kiesler, John Coplans, Joseph Beuys, Mariko Mori, David Hammons, Nate Loman, Ann-Sofi Siden, Huang Yong Ping, and Menashe Kadishman.
