Marti Cormand is the recipient of the 2007 Aldrich Emerging Artist Award.  His award exhibition is currently on view at the Museum.

Curator and Aldrich exhibitions director Richard Klein says, “Cormand views realism and abstraction not as opposite poles, but more as ways of thinking and seeing that can (and should) be entertained simultaneously. The contradictions and complexities of Cormand's work put the viewer in a position to thoughtfully reconsider both the enterprise of picture-making and the nature of the tangible world.”

Born in Barcelona in 1970, Cormand received an MFA from the University of Barcelona in 1994. He has had recent solo exhibitions at Josée Bienvenu Gallery, New York (2006 and 2005); Gregory Lind Gallery, San Francisco (2006 and 2003); Galeria Alejandro Sales, Barcelona (2001 and 1999); and Galeria Luis Adelantado, Valencia, Spain (1998). His work has been included in recent group exhibitions at ARCO, Josée Bienvenu Gallery, Madrid (2007); PULSE, Josée Bienvenu Gallery, Miami (2006); Sicardi Gallery, Houston (2004); Arte y Naturaleza, Centro de Arte, Madrid (2004); and Art Frankfurt, Galeria Claramunt, Frankfurt (2001). In 1992 he received an Erasmus Grant from the School of Fine Arts, Leeds University, England, and in 2000 he was the recipient of a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant. The artist lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
