Face to Face with Ann Hamilton!
Back to Aldrich Experience homepage
Robert Burns bemoaned our inability to "see ourselves as others see us . . ." This exceptional Aldrich Experience will allow you to see yourself through the eyes of acclaimed artist Ann Hamilton!
Hamilton was the recipient of the 1998 Larry Aldrich Foundation Award. Her award exhibition, whitecloth, was seen at The Aldrich in 1999, the same year she was the United States representative at the Venice Biennale.
Hamilton has developed a way of working with portraiture that captures the image of her subjects through the use of a mouth-held pinhole camera. This process began when she made her self portrait in this manner, using a hand-held mirror. Hamilton then transformed this private act of looking into a social one. These mutual acts of recognition "register the ten seconds or a minute of my standing face to face with another person, our looking together at each other." You will come face to face with Hamilton as she creates your portrait with her pinhole camera at a private photo session in New York.
