Doug Wada: Vehicle was part of the Homecoming exhibition at The Aldrich (2006) and The Drawn Page (2004).

He grew up in Ridgefield, and earned his 1989 B.F.A. at the School of Visual Arts, New York, where he now lives and works.

Aldrich director Harry Philbrick writes, “I have admired Doug Wada’s paintings since I first saw them in 2001 . . . The paintings were all of mundane objects, painted life size, straight on, against a neutral background.  Subway seats, trashcans, stacked suitcases, locker doors, Wada chose objects that defied easy categorization, except they were things that, by their nature, you don’t usually notice or think about. . . . By processing them through the act of noticing, scrutinizing, and reproducing them in paint, Wada performed a simple act of aggrandizement that struck me as poetic, in a deadpan, slightly ironic way.  A painting he produced in response to a visit to The Aldrich whilst our new building was under construction in 2004 continued his exploration of objects we see but don’t look at: a straight-on view of a pink portable toilet.”
