June 24 , 2007—September 3 , 2007
Exhibition Reception: Sunday, June 24, 2007; 3 to 5 pm
The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum is pleased to announce an exciting addition to its 2007 exhibition schedule. Curated by Aldrich director Harry Philbrick, NEIL JENNEY: NORTH AMERICA will be the artist’s first museum showing since the Whitney Museum of American Art in 1994.
NEIL JENNEY: NORTH AMERICA introduces a diverse body of work by one of the most intriguing artists of our time. The exhibition focuses on the landscape imagery of North America, as observed and interpreted by the artist. The paintings in the exhibition range from the “good paintings” of the early seventies to new work making its debut at The Aldrich.additional images | click to enlarge
Neil Jenney’s paintings are an intricate blend of poignant imagery and sculptural complexity focusing on issues facing North America and the world, such as imminent environmental concerns and social injustices. The artist’s technique offers meticulous application of pigment reminiscent of the nineteenth- and early-twentieth-century landscape paintings of John Frederick Kensett, Willard Leroy Metcalf, Grant Wood, and Edward Hopper. Jenney brings natural realism into the twenty-first century.
The exhibition will open with a free public reception from 3 to 5 pm on Sunday, June 24, 2007, at The Aldrich, located at 258 Main Street, Ridgefield, CT. Round-trip transportation from New York City is available; please call the Museum at 203.438.4519 for reservations.
