New Aldrich Edition by Gary Panter—Only 50 Available
March 2008
The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum is pleased to announce that a new Aldrich Edition is now available for acquisition exclusively through the Museum Store, located in the Museum’s Leir Atrium at 258 Main Street, Ridgefield, Connecticut.
Daydream Trap—a four-color silkscreen print by Gary Panter—is graphic in style and characteristic of the work for which he has become so well known. The Museum has launched the special edition of 50 prints in conjunction with Gary Panter’s first solo museum exhibition, also called Daydream Trap (on view through August 31, 2008). The exhibition focuses on three facets of the artist’s career: his sketchbooks, paintings, and his music. The exhibition will remain on view through August 31, 2008.
Panter has been one of the most influential figures in visual culture since the mid-1970s. From era-defining punk graphics, to his cartoon icon Jimbo, to his visionary design for Pee-Wee’s Playhouse (for which he won three Emmy Awards), he has left his mark on every medium he’s touched. The recipient of the 2000 Chrysler Award for Design Excellence, Panter draws inspiration from diverse vernacular and traditional art arenas. Closely associated with the underground comics and music scenes, he created record covers for Frank Zappa, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and The Residents. Recently, Panter has performed with psychedelic light shows at the Hirschhorn Museum in Washington, D.C., and at New York’s Anthology Film Archives. A featured artist in the major 2005-2006 touring exhibition, Masters of American Comics, organized by UCLA Hammer Museum and LA MoCA, Panter is represented by Clementine Gallery, New York City, and Dunn and Brown Contemporary, Dallas.
