Aldrich Educator Laura Kaufman Recognized by CAEA
March 2008
The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum is pleased to announce that Laura Kaufman—museum educator: school & teacher programs—has been awarded 2008 Museum Educator of the Year by the Connecticut Art Education Association for significant contributions to the field of art education.
Kaufman joined The Aldrich in 2004 and has since maintained and enhanced the Museum’s School & Teacher Programs, introducing a variety of courses, workshops, and lectures for students and teachers, while establishing strong relationships with area schools.
Nina Carlson, Aldrich director of education, notes, “Laura is a wonderful asset to our education team. Especially impressive is the program that she introduced to the Museum in 2006, the Art & Writing Institute. This annual professional development forum for K-12 teachers connects and advances the relationship between art and writing at the primary and secondary levels. The two-day symposium focuses on enhancing students’ writing skills via the visual arts through workshops on museum-school collaborations, meeting state standards, and creative tools for connecting art to everyday life, and has been very successful for the Museum.”
The CAEA represents Connecticut art educators and administrators as the state’s professional visual arts education organization. Exemplary art educators are honored each year by this awards program. Kaufman, along with other awardees, will be honored at a ceremony and dinner on Thursday, April 10, 2008, at 6 pm at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art in Hartford. Questions concerning the event may be addressed to Janice May at 860.543.4591.
