The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum Receives Funding From State
August, 2007The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum has received a matching grant totaling $31,941.00 from the Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism, a state agency. One half of the total grant—the matching sum of $15,970.00—is provided by the National Endowment for the Arts. This funding will support general museum operations.
Aldrich director Harry Philbrick comments, “We are so pleased to receive this critical funding for the Museum. The Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism has generously embraced The Aldrich’s mission, to be a national leader in the exhibition of significant and challenging contemporary art with an emphasis on emerging and mid-career artists, a world-class innovator of museum education programs, and a vital cultural resource for our community.”
Philbrick continues, “A general operating grant such as this one provides security and enables the Museum to strategically plan for the future without concern that our basic Museum functions, the bedrock of a nonprofit organization such as ours, will be properly supported.”
State grants are awarded through a competitive process. This grant signifies that The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum provides a high level of quality in its programs, community service and administrative ability.
