Areas of Responsibility:
Responsibilities overlap with the Museum's Education Department in learning about the new exhibitions being installed and assisting with interpretive materials.
Works closely with the Museum's exhibition department during exhibition changeover period, assisting with all aspects of exhibition deinstallation and installation.
- Assisting the Museum's professional preparators in deinstalling artworks and preparing them for art transport.
- Preparing the Museum's galleries for new exhibitions, including painting, installing interpretive wall text, and exhibition labeling.
- Assisting the Museum's registrar in completing artwork packing forms and condition reports.
- Participating in meetings with exhibiting artists that focus on exhibition design, logistics, installation, lighting and interpretation.
- Aiding both the Museum's preparators and exhibiting artists in the installation of new exhibitions.
- Assisting exhibiting artists in the creation of new installation-oriented works and/or the reconfiguring of existing works to conform to The Aldrich's galleries.
- Attending docent training meetings and other education department meetings that focus on the understanding and interpretation of the new exhibitions that are being installed.
- Attending weekly staff meetings where all aspects of Museum programming and operations are discussed.
- Assisting the Museum's professional staff with artist support, including ordering and picking up lunch, transporting artists to and from local train stations, and picking up exhibition supplies from local businesses.
- Minimum of 32 hours/week for four weeks during biannual exhibition change period (either January or June/July)
