No Early Birds is a colorful, humorous rendering of the ubiquitous tag sale poster.  Chast, who has been a cartoonist for The New Yorker since 1978, specializes in finding the “inner voice” of inanimate, everyday objects such as those relegated to a tag sale, or as her mother once referred to it, the “conspiracy of the inanimate.”

The artist's fascination with the tiny, seemingly insignificant details that are usually and all too easily ignored is apparent in this hilarious depiction. The print, informing us of a fictional tag sale, with no date and an invented address, summarizes Chast's personal insight into the culture of the tag sale.
