Purchase a Retinal Scan Self-Portrait by Aldrich exhibiting artist Jo Yarrington and she will utilize cutting-edge ophthalmologic technology to create a personalized work using your own retinal image. Yarrington’s installation entitled Ocular Visions, on view through June 6, 2010, uses close-up photographic images of the interior of her own eye, as well as video based on retinal and macular scans, to explore the mechanics of vision and offer the viewer a meditation on seeing.
Each piece purchased will require a scheduled “sitting” appointment at The Aldrich, where a representative from Topcon Medical Systems Inc. will take a picture of the subject’s retina. This individualized retinal scan will be face-mounted on Plexiglas and signed and numbered by the artist, becoming a unique Retinal Scan Self-Portrait.
